No, it is evil ! It comes from Unix :-)


The problem lies not in the created file with a bit that says "streamLF"
instead of fixed block of nn bytes each. The problem lies with file
transfer protocols, many of which, are designed to convert from the
sender,s native end of line to a standard one over the wire and back to
the receiver's standard end of line.

So if the sender is an OS that has CR has end of line, and the receiver
has CR-LF, then every CR in the original binary file gets transformed
into CR-LF which changes the contents.
