I just got back from the airport. Oracle had a "charging station" (not
sure what for) as an advertisement, claiming 7x faster than HP etc etc.
Also: 3 billion devices run Java.

Forget the x86. What about Oracle porting Rdb (and VMS) to Sparc?

If Rdb customers are forced to leave Itanium with no other platform for
VMS and Rdb in sight, then they very likely will not choose anything
from HP or Oracle as their next platform: once bitten twice shy.
They'll probably go to commodity hardware, Linux and MySQL or whatever.
Loss of revenue for Oracle. However, a port of VMS and Rdb to Sparc
would keep a huge fraction of the customer base. With hardware, OS and
database all from one place, it might even feel a bit like the good old
|d|i|g|i|t|a|l| days again. :-)
