On the VMS machine, (the X client)

$set display/create/transport=tcpip/node=<ip of xnest machine>
$mc decw$clock

This will try to pop the Xclock window on your xnest workstation and if
it fails, you should see an error message.

Also, from the VMS host, you can try to telnet/port=6000 to see if it
connect or if connection is refused.

If cnnection is refused, then look on the xnest host to see if it has
some security that only allow connectiosn from certain hosts.

on unix, you would do something like "xhost +cake.chocolate.com" to add
cake.chocolate.com as an authorised machine that can connect to this
nodes X server/X terminal.

xhost alone displays the list of node allowed to connect.
