Since Apple is exiting the real server market, (every tech I select
tends to get killed just as I get used to it), my goal is to stop
depending on Apple for my server and update it myself. I am fully aware
that the OS isn't getting updates, but as long as I can update the DB,
PHP, APACHE, Postfix and oter unix utilities, I should be able to
emulate running a Linux system.
I've learned my lesson about prorietary server software. You're are the
whim of the CEO fo the compamy who ows it. Palmer and successors let go
of VMS, and now Apple is letting go of of OS-X server. (and with their
push for cloud computing, one wonders if Apple even sees a use for a
home server anymore, the current purpose of OS-X server which runs on a
Mac Mini or Mac Pro (Apple no longer makes real servers).

Yeah I am aware of this. But if I decide to go PostgreSQL, then it is
PostgreSQL which will be killed. such is my badluck with choices of
technoogy.
The applications I am porting came from ALLIN1 and in some cases, date
back from late 1980s. Over 20 years.
And now, I am told , before it is even ported, that I should change the
tech choices because it may not have a good future.
It is somewhat ironic that Apple is moving from MySQL to PostgreSQL
since Apple has a very good relationship with Oracle. (Ellison was best
buddies with Jobs, has a seat at the Apple board, and Apple relies
heavily on Oracle software to run its business, (both the business
itself as well as CRM, web and real stores etc).
