Quite true.

By far, bash is much more arcane, and DCL is both more awkward and more 
limited.

As an(other) example of a limitation of DCL, the lack of regular 
expressions.  Once you start using these, you'll find DCL lacking here.

Correct.

It's also why trying out other tools and other platforms can be valuable.

Yes.

These differences of experiences and requirements are also at the core 
of why the answer that JF gets for computing might be (is) different 
than the answer that somebody else might get.  Why some folks use 
OpenVMS, and some use RHES, some Windows, some OS X, etc.
