Some people may find it more convenient to just install GNV 3.0-1
which comes with

I admit the GNU diff (and probably most Unix diffs) can display a nice
context around the differences. And GNV always had a diff utility
which could do that for me. But none of the GNV diff tools can work on
VMS file versions - neither from bash nor from DCL.
Since I could convinced the maintainer to fix a bug in the Alpha
versions, I use diff/slp/output and edit/sum/update.
