I think SMS is thinking about the interaction between the OSU server and
the file on the server side and you are thinking about what happens
during the HTTP transport.

Nearly every internet application protocol (HTTP, FTP, NNTP, SMTP) specifies
<CR><LF> as the line terminator and nearly every unix-derived application
screws it up at some point it its development.
