The news is that HP is continuing with its plan to move BCS to
Linux/Windows and port some of the HP-UX goodies to Linux to help its
customers migrate.

Every step it takes in that direction makes it harder for it to rethink
its strategy of abandonning its IA64 opersting systems at the EOL of
Itanium.

According to documents filed by Oracle, 2012 was to have been the year
HP would fess up that IA64 is a dead end and start helping its customers
migrate so the migration would be done within 5 years when the last
IA64s ship.

Had it not been for Oracle's accusations which HP automatically denied,
it would have been easier for HP to formally announce that IA64 was
being put out of its misery after Kittson. Having denied this was true,
it becomes harder for HP to fess up to the fact that IA64 has been EOLed
since 2007.

But this announcement does signal that the plan is going ahead at the
normal schedule. HP still has 8 months to announce the EOL for IA64 and
still be true to its plans to announce it by 2012.
