HP killed it to fulfill a marketing obligation they had with Intel.
After both companies flushed millions (billions?) of dollars
developing the worst processor design in the history of man (IMO) HP
was obligated to provide a market.  None of the UX base would migrate
to the new crispy-critter CPU so they (HP) killed Alpha forcing the
OpenVMS customer base to sad excuse or migrate from OpenVMS.
