[Info-vax] FreeAXP loses network connectivity when laptop is woken up from "sleep"

One day and what seems like a hundred reboots later, I have a VMware Player guest running Windows XP, with two cores and two bridged NICs. In that, I have FreeAXP running OpenVMS 8.3.
If I reboot the host, start VMware Player, boot up the guest and do
$ TCPIP PING 192.168.0.138
(192.168.0.138 being my ADSL router)
I can even suspend the guest by closing the window. VMware Player saves its state to disk and then, when I reopen it, I can pick up where I left off (in VMS) and the PING command works once more.
However, when I suspend the guest and then do a SLEEP/RESUME on the laptop, and then resume the guest, the guest has no network connectivity. The guest seems to think everything is fine, but it can't see any remote hosts. Needless to say, TCP/IP Services in VMS can't see any, either.
I looked around on the net and I'm not the only one who has this problem.
It's interesting - in VirtualBox, guest network connectivity survives host SLEEP/RESUME without a hitch. But I can't get it to create a guest with two cores.
