There are way too many issues to be discussed about this to allow anyone here to give you useful information regarding the transition.  For example, is the system uptime critical 24 hours per day? or is similar functionality and screen interaction mroe inmportant?  What does the system do? Are there alternatives that already exist where a migration to another already existing package would be less expensive?  Do you have modules written in MAcro that would need to be implimented in another language?
