When you say it no longer works for the console, you mean the console
with the >>> prompt when you enter a boot command and see the very early
ROM based messages followed by the early VMS bootup sequence ?

A new VMS version should not change this because it uses very primitive
character cell console that comes with the graphics card. It is only if
you start decwindows that the VMS specific drivers kick in.

The expert on that aspect of VMS was Fred Kleinsorge. Unfortunatly, he
passed away some months ago.


(this was valid for VAX and Alpha, not sure about them itanium things)


Can you tell us what was the last message you saw on the screen before
it complains about the invalid frequency ?

Do you have the console set to be on the display and keyboard, or do you
have the >>> prompt on an attached serial terminal ?
