An LC II may have some other limitation, but I'd bet
against 7.5.5 requiring a 68030.

It did, until they stopped recompiling/relinking the
stuff. As the "PATHWORKS for OpenVMS (Macintosh)" "Server
Release Notes" (MSA013A.RELEASE_NOTES) say:
AppleTalk for OpenVMS 3.2 is included in PATHWORKS
for OpenVMS (Macintosh) V1.3A.
Now (VMS V8.x, I believe), when you try to start it, you
get stuff like this:
Starting AppleTalk for OpenVMS...
%SYSMAN-I-NODERR, error returned from node ALP
-SYSTEM-W-SYSVERDIF, system version mismatch; please relink
%SYSMAN-I-NODERR, error returned from node ALP
-SYSTEM-W-SYSVERDIF, system version mismatch; please relink
%INSTALL-E-FAIL, failed to CREATE entry for
DISK$VMS083ALP:<SYS0.SYSCOMMON.SYSEXE>ATK$MANAGER.EXE
-INSTALL-E-SYSVERDIF, system version mismatch - please relink
I haven't tried faking the shared image version info.
Until very recently (when I got the free PowerBook), I
haven't much cared. If I got desperate, I could probably
fire up a VAX, or see if I still have a V7.x system disk on
my spare/experimental Alpha.

Not much.
