   A real 2000 can use a SCSI(-like) TK50Z-FA tape drive.

   That sounds like a reasonable approach.  Generally, what
you want are the VMS073.% and DECW073.% files.  (I'd guess
that VMS073.B is not needed after the initial BACKUP /IMAGE
step.)  It looks as if all of those save sets will fit onto
an RD54.  It's been a while, but, as I recall, the VMS
installer can do DECwindows as part of the VMS installation.

   If you want something older, send me some e-mail.  I still
have a copy of a V1 Hobbyist CD-ROM, which includes the V5.5
and the "-2" upgrade kits.  (What it does not have are
layered product kits -- compilers, VAXset/DECset, and so on,
so those would require more work.)
