Yes. By using a different emulator I was effectively booting into a 
system which had been AUTOGENed on a different hardware configuration...

I would too.  IIRC I specified REBOOT.  I wonder if there was some kind 
of symbol overflow which didn't get reported. I wonder if message 
reporting gets switched off at some point in AUTOGEN which can disable 
reporting of a symbol overflow...
