When did Gerard's rhetoric imply that he would be taking on the task all by
himself?
I'd contend that there are many people involved in the Linux effort that do
not fulfill the prerequisites which you've outlined. Much of its quality --
or its lack thereof -- seems to slap those in the face for that which you've
interrogated Gerard.
Of course, one may never know unless there is an opened-source of VMS. I'd
love to, at least, have a chance to tackle it. There is no shame in abject
failure but only in a failure to try.
