Interesting.  I would have guessed at below-Ethernet speeds.

The other "fun" that cropped up with VAX were the Q-22 and Unibus speeds.

That's like the speed limitations of PCI-X slots, these days.

That was one of the reputed issues with the CI drivers.  System load.

That then led to the common "cost it higher" recommendations.
