Well, yes you can... :-)

In chapter "CHAPTER 1, Introduction" it also says:

"There are also binary encoded forms of the language for use in
suitably controlled environments—for example, when the program
is assured of a fully transparent communications path such as in
the Display Post-Script® system. Adobe recommends strict adherence
to the ASCII representation of PostScript language programs for
document interchange or archival storage."
