VMS works on all 3, VAX, Alpha, and itanic. I find it useful.
I don't agree, but it ain't my job, so what I think doesn't matter. Our
person in charge of support is trying to get the last customer using an
Alpha to move to itanic. His method, he will support some new stuff I'm
working on solely on itanic, even though I used Alpha (and maybe VAX at
times) to develop the software. Go figure.
In his defense, the customer would have an itanic with 2-3 years of
warranty for the cost of 2 years support on the Alpha. It's actually a
good move for the customer.
Me, I'll keep my beloved VAXs and Alphas. I can still develop there,
and the customers can run on Alpha or IA-64. VAX just isn't an option
for a production system.
