Actually, in outsourced VMS land, it's the newer versions you really have
to worry about.
At least the old, obsolete and limited functionality available within
the network stacks worked within those limits in the old versions.
It's the newer versions of those products, still with limited functionality
compared to what's currently available elsewhere, which may bring along
possible data corruption (my SFTP problems last year) and other problems
(for example, the reported TCP/IP V5.7 problems) for free which you really
have to worry about when deciding whether to upgrade.
BTW, while Hoff generally makes some good points, I wish he and others
would show some empathy for your situation; I suspect the last thing
you want to hear right now is a lecture on how things should have been
done. Personally, I'm just sorry I don't have any more ideas to offer you.
