If you image the tape correctly, you can just write the image back to
a different tape, producing an effectively identical copy.
I'm reminded that some of the earliest DLT drives could still read TK
era media. That might make your search for a drive easier.
You might also check with other DEC hobbyists, e.g. the Retro DECnet
group (http://decnet.ipv7.net/) to see if they know anybody near you
who could help you image the tapes.
