Software to allow access into the NAS, with the remote storage mounted
as part of the local file system.
With OpenVMS, there is only the NFS client.
With most systems, SMB/CIFS, AFP and/or iSCSI are common, and there are
other choices.

Yeah; if the FTP client is enough for your needs, then the available
options are far larger.

Nope. Not as a file system. There's only an FTP-like client with the
OpenVMS Samba/CIFS bit.
