Depending on how involved the upgrade process is, it may reboot
"minimum" after doing some staging work in order to install files in
their right location. In such a minimum boot, none of your cluster
logicals get defined and it may fail if it doesn't find those files.

Not sure of 8.3 to 8.4 involves this. But it might.

If the SPD says that a 8.4 node can co-exist in a mixed cluster with
8.3, then it is a safe bet that clusterable files such as the queue
manager and authorization files remain the same. So the format of your
8.3 authorization file remains legit.

However, the 8.4 installation might involved the addition of some
usernames/rights identifiers for new components. (not sure of it does,
but this is one possibility). So after the install, best to check if new
users/identifiers were added which are not in your clustered/shared
version. You can use DCL OPEN/READ/WRITE/CLOSE statements to move
individual records from one SYSUAF to another.

What you can do is copy the clustered files "back home" on the system
disks just to please the upgrade process. Once the upgrade is done, you
get the logicals setup again to point to the clustered/shared versions.
