1- Please set your NNTP client to add CR-LF at ends of lines.

2- With power plugged in and ower button depressed, have you tried
accessing the RMC on the serial console port ?

<ESC><ESC><ESC>RMC   should get you into RMS mode. There is limited
help. STATUS is what you are looking for, as well as POWER ON (and see
what error messages might be issued).
