Cracking open and modifying an AlphaServer power supply is not 
something I'd generally recommend in this context.

That approach is potentially slightly more hazardous than knowing which 
end of the soldering iron to grab, after all.  It also presumes there's 
room and power in the AlphaServer power supply for another connection, 
and I don't know that's available in that old AlphaServer.   There are 
days I don't trust me with a hot soldering iron, either.

The most flexible and transportable is an external BA-series SCSI 
storage enclosure or analogous box, and those are cheap and easily 
available, and usually have the power and cooling for the expected 
number of disk bricks.  Failing that, maybe a Y cable.
