Any organization that is still heavily reliant on VMS will find porting off of it to be an incredibly demanding project. That's not to say, don't do it, but if your organization is the kind that has trouble understanding broad technical problems, creating good plans, or recognizing when a project has gone off into the weeds, you may be in for a _long_ rough ride.

For example, it would stink if after five years of real work, you can't say what % has been completed or what % is left. And it does happen.
