MFTU is a kind VMS specific of B64 or UUENCODE replacement.
It is not the complete fileserver format with builtin
TPU code to extract that servers like Hunter use/used.
But maybe that wasn't what you ment, I'm not sure *what*
you ment with that post, besides showing MFTU... :-)
MFTU was part of my implementation for the communication of
production data between Ericsson and it's sub-contractors in
the cases where they had VMS system. If not we used ordinary
MIME encoding (using MPACK/MUNPACK on our side).
One nice thing with MFTU was that it's format was not seen
as "attachement" by virus and SPAM scanners. So they was
less likely to get blocked by company filters. :-)
That system (developed by me in 96-97) is today one of the
last VMS systems at Ericsson. Today in the hands of TSC that
now have taken over maintenance for this and other stuff. From
what I heard they had a hard time presenting anyone knowing VMS.
My assignment for this system ended the last of January 2014.
