While you are at it, you might want to update your GNV installation by browsing to http://sourceforge.net/projects/gnv/files/?source=navbar and downloading the updated versions of the tools there. The version of Bash you are running is from an earlier release of GNV which contained a woefully archaic version of the Bash shell. The archaic version of the Bash shell you are currently running is unlikely to be able to sensibly process some modern Open Source build scripts. The group of people responsible for updating the GNV toolkit (of which I am a member) is in the process of updating the individual components of the GNV toolkit so that it is easier to port and build Open Source Software on OpenVMS using the same tools and utilities available in a typical UNIX/Linux environment. For example, the current release of OpenVMS GNV Bash is 4.3.24 (just released yesterday evening for OpenVMS) which is current with the GNU Bash Project. Other components of the GNV kit have been similarly updated over the past year. In the event you would like to build these packages yourself, you are much more likely to succeed using the updated GNV files than with what you are currently using.
