Thanks John. This is beginning to look like a doubtful project for me, but I will be sure to update to the latest GNV if I do give it a shot.
I was not expecting that many people had ever tried to install Numpy on VMS, but am now wondering if anyone at all has installed Numpy or other Python numeric packages on VMS in the last several years. In fact, SAS is the only numerically oriented program that I know of that is used under VMS. I guess there is just not much of an intersection anymore between VMS and these sorts of numerical applications.
For a slight bit of irony, the guy who wrote a lot of the Python numerical libraries did a lot of the earlier work in VMS (I don't know the full story, but heard him say something to that effect during a talk).
