[Info-vax] OT?: HP memristors fade away, The Machine is redefined somewhat.

[...snip...]
The original memristor announcement by HP Labs was made in 2008 so we should have seen some sort of memristor-based memory products by now. Since we haven't, then I can only assume that they are "difficult to manufacture" or "might be as forgetful as current SSD technology".
On a (related to memory) note, I was surprised when this recent Intel announcement:
http://www.extremetech.com/extreme/211087-intel-micron-reveal-xpoint-a-new-memory-architecture-that-claims-to-outclass-both-ddr4-and-nand
For electronics buffs, a few weeks back I noticed a neat IEEE article about the discovery of the Weyl Fermion.
http://spectrum.ieee.org/tech-talk/semiconductors/materials/exotic-particles-could-lead-to-faster-electronics
For those not wishing to read the article, an electron has negative charge and mass. This discovery was about a particle which carries charge but has no mass. Needless to say that these are very early days but I suspect this technology appears more promising than "quantum computing" which always seems to be accompanied by a very large tank of some super-cooled gas.
