In general and not specific to OpenSSH, more than a little of the 
conditionalized OpenVMS support in open source was and is no longer 
necessary, or was problematic at best.   In one or two cases, I was 
able to hack out more than three-quarters of the #if __VMS stuff, and 
the code worked better.   Though unfortunately the skew is trending 
worse again, with the lack of C99 and the lack of various libraries, 
and the usual #include <c api rant.h> stuff.
