I'm not using a newsreader at all. I'm using Google Groups. That's the way Google Groups handles input.

I could understand your ire if you were posting from just about any other place. But your email address
implies that you are also using a Google service. comp.os.vms has always been an odd case, as in the old 
days it was a 3-headed beast (one head was a LISTSERV mailing list, the second was the comp.os.vms newsgroup,
and I forget what the third was. There were persistent problems with the gateways either failing to
forward items or repeatedly forwarding the same items over and over and over.
