[Info-vax] Kittson question

After Mr Hermannsfeldt's explaination, a different slant to the question:

Say there is a VAX shop still running Microvax IIs and using the spare 8
bits in physical addresses as kernel hacks.

Would it be fair to state that no matter where they go (newer vax, or
emulated vax), they should expect their little hacks to fail and need to
be rewritten because newer machines make use of more than 24 bits for
phyiscal addresses ?

Should a VAX emulator on a new platform really cater to such hacks ?
