That's one choice. The disk becomes a "container file", which is a single file in Windows. Inside that file is an ODS-2/-5 file structure.

That's the other choice. The SAN will have Windows drivers, so they can use the Windows name (\\.\PhysicalDrivexyz). Windows then handles any necessary translation.
