Find a ZIP.EXE (and maybe UNZIP) for your architecture (Alpha
or IA64 I guess). I think the ZIP.EXE should be fine if FTP'ed
in bin mode. Then just create a symbol ti it:

$ zip :== $dev:[dir]zip.exe

$ zip <enter> for help page.

I have put Alpha version of zip/unzip here:

http://jescab2.dyndns.org/pub_docs/unzip.axp_exe

Not sure if they are the latest versions, but they work.

It's hard to say more without knowing more about it.
Total volume, organisation of the disks and so on.
