As you wrote, it may be a Charon thing. What I'd do is try it on another (free) emulator. 
If it doesn't fail you know who to talk to. if it does, try downgrading to V20 or any other patch level you feel confident with.
Should, say, V20 not fail try replacing just the crashing .EXE image with the non crashing older version.
This assumes you can talk to the Charon folks and that you have the equipment and distribution kits for 7.3-2 to try this.
