Cassandra requires Java 7 or 8.

If VMS want to become a widely appealing OS then they need to keep
uptodate with Java.

But even if they do then I don't think the Cassandra/Hadoop type of
applications will become popular on VMS. They are intended to run on
the cheapest HW & SW stack possible.
