I didn't know about the VT100. Can you tell me which episode
###
Sci-fi is a matter of personal preference (there is no right or wrong). But anyone who watched ST:ENT would immediately recognize the main flaws. Here I will only point out just one of many (and it may be related to your comment about the B5's story arc):
The closing episodes of each season involved a time-line violation where a human visitor from the future came back in time to warn Captain Archer about some problem (temporal cold war) which might prevent the creation of the United Federation of Planets.
comment: now everyone knows there needs to be science in sci-fi which means you might be transported into the future (eg. freezing or being trapped in a transport maintenance cycle for 75 years) but time travel into the past is forbidden.
Now IMHO good sci-fi makes humanity look at itself and sometime this is done through the eyes of non-human characters:
1) Archer and Ambassador Soval (includes a vulcan terrorist plot to bomb the customs and immigration line at the space port)
2) T'pol's great grandmother (who looks like T'pol) is part of a clandestine research team to view contemporary humans on Earth (the USA, of course). BTW, who can forget her stealing a dress from a clothesline then putting it on backwards? (I can't remember if the reversed neckline plunged more or less :-)
3) Tripp's relationship with T'Pol (includes going to vulcan to meet with T'Pol's mother (who disaproves of the union; what human has not been exposed to that?)
On a related note, the actors were very concerned that Rick Berman had Tripp killed in the final episode; they speculated that Berman did not want to see a tv-trek come along which would build upon this human-vulcan love affair
