Sorry for responding to my own post but this is an important continuation of my response to JF.

Hollywood f'ed up again with the last two versions of JJ Trek. They were meant to recruit a new generation of Star Trek fans but only succeeded in producing a series of sci-fi plot holes big enough to fly a starship though. There's lots of web sites and youtube vids about this but here is my favorite:

In JJ's first movie in 2009, are we expected to believe that Nero hung around a specific spot in the universe for 25-years just waiting for Spock to come through from the future?

Okay so lots of Trekies and Trekors are fritzed off with the direction Hollywood has taken with Star Trek (anything for a buck no matter the quality of the sci-fi). This has caused a lot of fans to fund various kickstarter campaigns to produce fan-funded variants. Here is a link for one production (of many) called "Star Trek Axanar". This group is trying to resurrect Star Trek using the B5 Model (rent a warehouse north of Hollywood then convert it into a production set)
