Turns out that MOUNT/DENSITY only accepts numbers on VAX. And none of
them made a difference.
BUT :-)
I had a disk drive cleaning diskette. Drop a bit of alchool onto the
special paper disk, put in in disk drive, attempt to mount it so it
spins sone and then put in a different diskette from first one and:
$ mount/foreign/override=id dua2:
%MOUNT-I-MOUNTED, mounted on _$7$DUA2: (VELOVX)
$ backup/physica
%%%%%%%%%%% OPCOM 1-JAN-2005 06:04:03.62 %%%%%%%%%%%
Message from user SYSTEM on VELOVX
Volume " " mounted, on physical device _VELOVX$DUA2:
Yippie ! So it isn't the Mac formatting or density that was the problem,
just the drive being unreadable.
Now...

Does this mean a single sector was bad ? Would this mean that on the
output device, block 1020 will be full of nulls or random characters ?
Or that block 1021 on origimal device will be at block 1020 on new device ?
