   BOINC was a reaplcement for an eariler effort, which did run
   on Alpha under VMS.  IIRC, the investigators have safeguards
   to prevent thier servers from accepeting data from any but
   thier own certified binaries.  And they think there are too few
   Alpha running VMS to put thier effort into certification.
