Don't get worked up about it.  It's perfectly reasonable that HP doesn't let external people access their computer systems.  It's just basic security and having an internal backside to kick if things go wrong rather than the argy-bargy of legal action against the other company or external individual.  (The further risk with individuals is that they might not have the money to pay the cost of any required remedial work.)

Just be pleased that VSI got the source code (plus whatever) and were able to work with it.
