Things didn't go very well; it turns out that the HP 64 bit box I used
for this was sufficiently old that it didn't support a required
instruction.
Also, if anyone gets the following error (wrapped):
alphavm_free: /usr/lib64/libstdc++.so.6: version `GLIBCXX_3.4.15' not
found (required by alphavm_free)
then switch to the 1.5.11 development version which uses static linking.
As the HP box in question has a XP partition, I tried FreeAXP with much
more success.
Some FreeAXP notes in case it helps someone:
OPA0 is presented on port 9000 and you can telnet to that port from
a Linux box on the local network. The Linux telnet client just worked,
but when using C-Kermit (to transfer the licences) I had to use the
following sequence from the Kermit prompt before I could connect to OPA0:
set telnet wait-for-negotiations off
telnet /nowait {Windows_box_IP_address} 9000
as the version of C-Kermit I was using would get stuck performing the
telnet negotiation sequence. To do the actual transfer of licences
I did the following from C-Kermit:
I logged into OPA0 using C-Kermit, issued a "$ create lic.com", escaped
back to the C-Kermit prompt and issued the following commands:
set transmit pause 100 (Pause is in milliseconds)
transmit {Filename_of_hobbyist_command_procedure_received_from_HP}
c
^Z
@lic
100 milliseconds per line is overkill, but I just left C-Kermit to
it and I did something else for a few minutes.
Simon.
