HP and VSI are delivering on their respective roadmaps. HP is
performing their ramp-down of OpenVMS. VSI is working on their
ramp-up of OpenVMS.
HP OpenVMS customers that require vendor support past the HP roadmap or
that require software enhancements will either need to transition to
another platform, or license and transition to VSI as that becomes an
option, or license and transition to those particular VSI
configurations that HP plans to resell and to support as that becomes
an option.
There are pricing and support and trade-in details that'll undoubtedly
be announced as V8.4-1H1 approaches availability, and these details
will factor into many customer decisions for use of V8.4-1H1 and/or for
other subsequent VSI-planned releases as those become available.
The folks I've chatted with at HP would like to see VSI succeed with
OpenVMS, but this is up to VSI and to what and how much the OpenVMS
customers will buy.
