How did you "copy the CD"?

To work around the problem you might want to have an image file of the 
CD on your hard drive (what some people refer to as an iso file) and use 
a loop device to mount it.

Btw. this isn't new with 8.4, as far as I remember problems like this 
exist for a long time.
