I think Hoff may be onto something. He mentioned authorization. Is it
possible that the server (aka the X terminal) doesn't authorize
connections that are local or remote  ?

This would prevent the login or any other clients from displaying on
your screen, hence the grey screen.


However, this would have happened at the upgrade time when files were
changed. not later.

If you get the grey screen, and get display DECW$CLOCK on it or start
the login, it may not be a resource issue.

Have you enabled incoming TCPIP connections on the workstation's
decwindows ? If so, have you tried to see if someone is listening to
port 6000 on that node ? (is it netstat that does it on VMS , i forget).

If you login via LAT/telnet, how many DECW logical names are created at
a point where you get the grey screen ?
