[Info-vax] 8.4 and DECwindows CDE login box not coming up

That message is in SYS$COMMON:[SYSMSG]DECW$DWTMSG.EXE and
translates into "%DWT-F-DWTABORT, xtoolkit fatal error".

Google gives very little on DWTABORT. Some old posts
from 2005...
