[Info-vax] TCPIP Services IMAP and POP resource consumption

Problems continue. Per the users no almost no change in perceived performance despite the fact that overall resource usage by POP is down by more than 1/2 and IMAP even more. I'm going to hack down another couple of monster users tonight or over the weekend.

We can telnet and SSH to this system, no problems no delays. SMTP to it (timed server connections and also manual telnet) and telnet to IMAP are also zippy.

But using TELNET to the POP server takes almost 60 seconds for the banner to come back. Enter USER USERNAME, and its almost a minute before you are told Password required. QUIT responds in about 20 seconds.

So we're going to turn up logging, see if we can monitor things to find out what the slowdown is.

But its going to be moot soon. The problems have driven management at the site to push up conversion to cloud mail (sadly the microsoft variant, oh well, another assimilation). And the Alpha will be retired from service; the application data on it is now 8-9 years old and they don't refer to it any more.
