No, I was using meta-X dired. Emacs dired pulls up a directory listing in
"edit" mode and lets you do things like navigate to sub or superdirectories,
create a new directory, delete a file, delete a directory, etc. One of the
nice things about it is Emacs dired is a semi-graphical file manager not so
unlike the old Midnight Commander. When you're developing something you can
navigate quickly inside the editor and get all the files you want in edit,
without having to start seperate sessions or guess at directory paths
(filespecs).

No, I meant startup is terribly slow. But I may just not remember how long
EmacsOS takes to load on a slow box since I haven't run it on one in over a
decade. In comparison MicroEmacs open almost immediately but that is just
one executable with no gnu-baggage. With the gnuEmacs 21.2 we're talking
about it shows the line about starting a kept editor and then takes about a
minute to show signs of life/death.
