I may be missing something here, but

What is being attempted is as follows:

USB -> DB9 keyspan -> DB9 -> USB -> Silex -> MAC

The Silex section provids the internet capability right?

Since the goal is to get to the console and the console is a DB9, why can't the configuration be the following:

DB9 (console connector) -> USB -> Silex -> MAC

All that is needed perhaps is a gender changer for the DB9 if it is the wrong sex.

No USB support required for the console as this would connect to the serial console port.
